WINDSOR GREAT PARK - Historic Pathways Project Walk - Wednesday, 15th October
Our guide for this walk will be William Cathcart, who has only recently retired from his post as Superintendant of Windsor Great Park. We are very fortunate to have a leader with such an intimate knowledge of the ground, who can show us the ancient trees, conservation grazing with Longhorn cattle, and much more!
Walk length 2.5 miles. This should take about 2 hours, with stops at points of interest. There are no stiles or steep gradients, but stout walking boots are recommended, as the ground can be uneven, and there will be brambles and bracken underfoot.
Meet at 10.30 am in the Cranbourne Car Park, on the west side of the A 322, OS map sheet 175, grid ref 947 728. It is midway, coming from Ascot, between the peanut roundabout and the main Rangers Gate. Another indicator is that it is 300m beyond a distinctive pink lodge with an ornamental parapet around the roof.
Pub lunch, if required, can be taken at the Old Hatchet, Winkfield.
