Thames Valley Network walk
15th May, 2014 at 10.30am
Steventon and Milton
Starting point is Steventon Village Green, if there is room you may park in the Village Hall car park the post code is OX13 6RR. If the car park is full the Milton Road runs adjacent to the Green and may be used for parking, but please respect the entrances to the houses. The Village Green is right on the main road through the village.
This is a flat walk of just under 4 miles from the village of Steventon into Milton and back into Steventon, the Causeway is cobbled and makes walking sometimes difficult, but there is an adjacent footway that may be used instead. There are 2 stiles and a footbridge over the A34. The ground is likely to be wet and muddy in parts because it follows the course of the Ginge brook and the water can seep onto the footpaths. We pass interesting places including Milton Manor and Church and many historic Grade II listed houses. The full history where possible will be given to all walkers in the form of a handout. We will be walking along a 700 year old causeway built by the monks of the Abbey of Bec in France.
If anyone wants to shorten the walk there are a couple of places where this may be possible.
Picnicking on the Village Green is possible after the walk or we would thoroughly recommend The Cherry Tree a very old pub in the village.
